Comau Brings the Power of Automation to Bi-Mu with the Launch of Its Next Generation Machine Tool and Advanced Solutions
  • SmartReach Comau: worldwide debut of a new paradigm in enhanced machining where versatility and performance meet unwavering stiffness and accuracy for high-speed, one setup 6-sided machining of large, lightweight structures
  • in.Grid Line Monitoring: digital platform for real-time performance monitoring of the entire production line (equipment and manufacturer agnostic)
  • TPX Robot Teach Pendant: with integrated 3D simulation and custom application support it optimizes operations in even the most difficult environments
  • MI.RA/Picker: a fully automated, intelligent bin-picking vision system that can recognize and grasp homogeneous objects
  • S-Robot Family: a new series of water and dust resistant compact welding and handling robots
  • MATE-XB and MATE-XT: wearable exoskeletons for the lower and upper back respectively to reduce muscular fatigue and deliver health and safety benefits

Comau put the Power of Automation on display at 34.BI-MU, Pavilion 15, Booth D10, presenting its newest innovations in advanced robotics, high-speed machining and digital backed automation solutions. Held from October 9th – 12th at Fieramilano, BI-MU is Italy’s most important exhibition for metal working, machine tools, robots, automation systems, digital and additive manufacturing, in addition to auxiliary and enabling technologies. The show was also characterized by a truly international scope within which the 34th edition will look at All faces of innovation.

During the 4-day exhibition, Comau highlighted several new products and digital-driven technology solutions designed to accelerate deployment, increase quality and ensure sustainable productivity within the smart factory and beyond. This included the worldwide launch of SmartReach Comau, a next-generation system that combines the precision of a machine tool with the agility of 5-axis articulation. Its modular design allows SmartReach Comau to realize 6-sided machining in only one clamping, boosting Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) while reducing time and costs.

Similarly, the global technology company unveiled its new TPX Robot Teach Pendant, whose full touchscreen display, intuitive interface and virtual simulation tools transform the way users maneuver, program, and monitor robots. As well as the all-new in.Grid digital platform with its equipment agnostic real-time monitoring and performance capabilities. By letting companies track performance, identify bottlenecks, and pinpoint areas for improvement, it gives them actionable insights to optimize productivity and operational efficiency.

BI-MU was the perfect place to see Comau’s new generation of small robots, the S-Family robots, designed to deliver precision, speed, and reliability across a wide range of general industry applications, and MI.RA/Picker, a standard solution for automated random bin picking tasks. Created to handle bins filled with single-type objects, MI.RA/Picker eliminates manual, repetitive tasks, significantly increasing productivity and operational cost-efficiency. Visitors also had the chance to try Comau’s MATE-XT and MATE-XB wearable exoskeletons to see how the upper and lower-back wearable robotics help reduce biomechanical loads, improve ergonomics and lower worker fatigue.

Part of its longstanding commitment to sustainability, Comau’s solutions and technology portfolio is designed to deliver high performance without compromising on environmental responsibility. This includes smart, scalable systems that are engineered for maximum versatility and adaptability, and intuitive-based control paradigms that address the increasing shortage of skilled labor and robotic engineers. It also extends to dedicated expertise in retooling and repurposing existing lines and equipment in order to increase manufacturing efficiency and flexibility. In this way, Comau helps companies save time, energy, and resources, while improving the quality of their production processes.

“As an Italian company and worldwide leader in designing flexible and versatile automation that increases efficiency and optimizes productivity, 34.BI-MU is the ideal backdrop to unveil our newest technologies,” said Pietro Gorlier, CEO of Comau. “Our comprehensive solutions portfolio allows us to offer innovative and flexible solutions to customers operating in a wide range of markets. In particular, the products we’ve launched here at BI-MU are designed to support multiple industries where automation is experiencing double-digit growth.”

Comau’s participation at BI-MU was enriched by several roundtable events: on October 9 Alessandro Piscioneri, Head of Products and Solutions (Advanced Automation Solutions), take part in the MADE roundtable, whereas Comau will spoke at multiple events on October 11, covering the themes of Intelligent robotics, and Stefania Ferrero, Chief Marketing Officer will be part of the Executive Roundtable for the International Robotics Foundation.

Visitors also had a chance to learn about the high-speed, fully automated brake disc coating system developed by Comau and Prima Additive. By hard coating the raw brake discs with resilient steel and composite materials, the solution significantly increases brake disc durability, reducing emissions pollution by up to 80% with minimal impact on cycle times. Furthermore, the full integration of Comau’s robotic arms with Siemens SINUMERIK Run MyRobot allows the industry-standard software platform to directly control the robotic arm without the need for external or embedded robot controllers.
