MDA Completes First Commercial Sale of Canadarm3 Technology to Axiom Space

 

MDA Ltd., a leading provider of advanced technology and services to the rapidly expanding global space industry, recently announced the first commercial sale of its Canadarm3 technology to Axiom Space. The contract is for the delivery of 32 external robotic interfaces for Axiom Space’s Axiom Station which is now under construction and on schedule to be the world’s first commercial space station in orbit.

The Canadian Space Agency Begins Design of Canadarm3

 

Leveraging a 40-year legacy of leadership in space robotics, the Government of Canada continues work on Canadarm3, the Canadian-made robotics system destined for the Lunar Gateway. Brampton-based company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) will receive $268.9 million to begin the preliminary design of Canadarm3. The investment also includes funding to procure some of Canadarm3’s components.

Ontario’s reputation as a North American leader in advanced manufacturing, research and development is growing with a new global headquarters and Space Robotics Centre of Excellence for Canadarm manufacturer MDA. With support from the Ontario government, MDA is investing $100 million over five years for its new Space Robotics Centre of Excellence and developing leading-edge technologies in commercial space robotics. The new centre will be the home for the design, development, and manufacture of the iconic and industry leading Canadarm3. .
