IMTS 2022: Student Competition & I4.0 Learning Experience “Industry 4.Core: Embracing the Journey from Mechatronics to Industry 4.0”

 

Festo Didactic, Siemens, and SICK Safety are teaming up at this year’s International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago. The trio is building awareness around the exciting advancements taking place in industry and technical education. They are hosting a special learning competition at the Smartforce Student Summit to inform and excite young people about the future of manufacturing.

Ontario Training More Workers for In Demand Careers in Auto Manufacturing

 

The Ontario government is working for workers by investing $5 million to provide free training to 500 people from underrepresented groups to prepare them for well-paying jobs in the province’s thriving automotive manufacturing sector. The project will provide participants with the necessary skills for rewarding careers in machine operation, assembly, quality control, and logistics. The program will also help address a critical shortage of workers in a vital industry as Ontario positions itself as a North American leader in auto manufacturing.

Student Summit to Feature the ‘Manufacturing Technology Classroom of the Future’ at IMTS 2022

 

The Smartforce Student Summit will be held at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show, Sept. 12-17, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Produced by the Smartforce Development team of AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology, which owns and operates IMTS, the Student Summit brings together students from elementary school through college, scout troops, robotics and STEM clubs, home-schooled students, and educators of all levels to explore the latest Industry 4.0 digital technologies driving manufacturing today.

Saskatchewan Announces Funding for Educational Events in the Information Technology and Green Energy Sectors

 

Recently, the Government of Saskatchewan announced a one-time investment of $158,000 from Innovation Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training to the Saskatoon Industry Education Council, in partnership with Siemens Canada, to create awareness about careers in the Information Technology (IT) and green energy sectors.

Georgian Officially Opens the Magna Mechatronics Lab at the Barrie Campus

 

Georgian and Magna International Inc. officially opened the Magna Mechatronics Lab at the Barrie Campus on June 23. The event celebrated Magna’s significant investment in Georgian and our students, showed off the new space and highlighted our Electromechanical Engineering Technology – Mechatronics program. Everyone was treated to hands-on demonstrations using the new technology and equipment in the lab.

Recently, a key puzzle piece fell into place with the announcement of $1.65 million in federal funding for a joint training program involving the University of Waterloo and partners in Germany. Support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) gives the green light to a nine-year initiative to train dozens of graduate students and help bring promising new two-dimensional materials out of the laboratory and into the marketplace.
