Magna officially opened the doors on its new facility in Duncan, South Carolina. Magna CEO, Swamy Kotagiri, and company officials were joined today by South Carolina Governor, Henry McMaster and other members of local government to celebrate the grand opening. The new 170,000 square foot facility produces exterior mirror systems for customers including BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. Production has started with roughly 255 employees but is expected to grow to approximately 400 jobs by over the next few years.

The Ontario government is providing $109 million to refurbish 56 GO Transit bi-level rail coaches at the Ontario Northland Remanufacturing and Repair Centre in North Bay. This investment is part of the government’s plan to expand service across the GO rail network and support economic development and job creation in the North. The refurbishment of the bi-level coaches will begin at the end of May and support approximately 100 manufacturing jobs. The scope of work includes new seating and upgrades to washrooms, electrical components, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), and door systems.

Building Ontario with Investments in GO Transit Bi-level Rail Coaches

 

The Ontario government is providing $171 million to refurbish 94 GO Transit bi-level rail coaches at the Alstom plant in Thunder Bay. This investment will support ongoing service expansion across the GO rail network, while supporting 200 manufacturing jobs and economic growth in Northwestern Ontario.The refurbished bi-level coaches are expected to be delivered starting in 2023 and will be equipped with new seating, washroom upgrades, updated electrical outlets with USB ports and other cosmetic improvements.
